Pages
In Shopify themes, Pages serve as customizable content containers that allow you to display detailed information to your customers. Pages can be used for a variety of purposes, including but not limited to About Us, Contact, FAQs, Privacy Policy, Terms and Conditions, and any custom content that you want to showcase on your store.
The pages in your theme are designed to be highly flexible, giving you the ability to add rich content, images, forms, and other elements without needing to dive into complex coding. Here's a breakdown of the features of pages in your theme, and how you can make the most out of them.
Types of Pages Your theme allows for several types of pages, each designed to serve a different purpose. Some common page types you might use include:
Standard Pages
These pages are ideal for showcasing general information. For example, you might create a page dedicated to your store’s history, or a product-specific page with in-depth details about a particular offering.
Contact Pages
The contact page typically includes a contact form, store contact information, and a map for customers who may want to visit your physical location. Customizable fields allow you to adjust the look and feel of the contact page.
Custom Pages
Custom pages provide flexibility to add unique content that isn’t tied to a specific template. These pages allow you to use rich text, media, and even embed code or third-party apps to suit your specific needs.
Policy Pages
Pages like Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions are required for many stores and can be automatically generated by Shopify. You can customize these templates to include your legal information and link them to your store’s footer or dedicated policy sections.
Key Features of Pages
Rich Content Editing
Pages support rich text editing, which allows you to easily add text, images, videos, links, and other media to create engaging content.
You can customize the layout and design of each page using the built-in text editor, making it simple to create beautiful pages without writing any code.
Custom Layouts
Depending on your theme, you may have the option to choose between different page templates, such as a default page, contact page, or even a custom template.
Custom layouts allow you to control the look and feel of your pages, ensuring that each one suits its purpose and enhances your brand identity.
Page-Specific Settings
Some themes allow you to control page-specific settings like padding, margins, and font sizes, ensuring that each page fits seamlessly within your overall design.
Integrating Forms
You can add contact forms, survey forms, or other types of customer forms to your pages, making it easier for customers to reach out, provide feedback, or submit inquiries.
Form submissions can be configured to send to your preferred email address or integrated with third-party apps to store and manage submissions.
Embed Media
You can embed videos, images, or external content directly into your pages. For example, you can use a video to demonstrate a product or add an image gallery to showcase your product’s features.
Embedding content from platforms like YouTube or Vimeo is also supported, allowing you to easily display videos from external sites.
SEO Settings
Each page allows you to customize meta title and meta description, which helps optimize your store for search engines.
Customizable URLs and friendly SEO practices make it easier for customers to find your pages through organic search.
Linking Pages
You can link pages to your store’s navigation menu, footer, or any other location on your site. For instance, a link to your FAQ or Terms and Conditions page can be added to your footer for easy access.
How to Add and Customize Pages Adding and customizing pages in your theme is straightforward and does not require coding skills. Here’s how you can add and customize pages:
Add a Page
In your Shopify Admin, go to Online Store > Pages.
Click Add Page to create a new page.
Give your page a title (e.g., About Us, Contact, etc.).
Use the rich text editor to add and format content, including text, images, videos, and links.
Choose a Template (Optional):
Depending on the content of your page, you may want to choose a template to adjust its layout.
You can select a default template or, if your theme supports it, a specific template for things like Contact Pages or Custom Pages.
Add SEO Settings
Scroll to the Search engine listing preview section at the bottom of the page editor.
Customize the meta title and meta description for better search engine optimization.
If desired, you can also edit the page’s URL.
Link the Page to Your Store:
After creating your page, you can add it to your store’s navigation menus (e.g., top bar, footer, or main menu).
Go to Online Store > Navigation and select the menu where you want the page to appear.
Click Add menu item, select your page, and save your changes.
Customize Your Page's Design:
Depending on your theme’s capabilities, you may be able to adjust additional design elements, such as page width, font size, and background color, to match your branding.
If custom code is required, you can edit the Liquid files for the page template (this requires a basic understanding of Shopify Liquid code).
