# Rate groups

Rate groups are used to group multiple rates into one. This gives you more control in how rates from different product groups are blended together.

* For example, you may want to offer the more expensive option of a weight-based rate or carrier shipping option to your customer but do not want the customer to see both choices, a rate group can help you set up such a rule.
* Rate groups can be accessed by clicking on the Rate Groups tab from your All in one commerce tab interface.
* You must have at least one rate created before you can assign rates to a rate group. It is recommended you set up your rates first.
